Interesting news from the Linux Market.

Microsoft lines up with Linux: It will be easier for customers to run Windows and Linux simultaneously. An agreement with Novell that runs at least until 2012 includes technical cooperation and a patent-agreement.
It will e.g. get easier to run a virtual Windows-server on a Linux-box or vice-versa. Furthermore it will get easier to build a service-oriented architecture (SOA) in heterogeneous environments.
The exchange of documents between MS-Office and Openoffice will work better. Because of the patent-agreement, customers that use Microsoft and Novell software will not have to be afraid of any law-suits concerning patents.

Notes 7.0.2 can be installed on a USB-Stick

From version 7.0.2 on you can start Lotus Notes directly from your USB-Stick or other mobile devices. So you will be able to conveniently start your email-environment with all your data on another system - without having to install the software on this system. 

Now Lotus Notes also has BLOG-functions and together with the Domino-server, you can conveniently create RSS-contents.

Further, Lotus Notes 7.0.2 provides 2 new SAP-templates.

With the update, Lotus Notes understands the iCalendar-format and can import it directly.

07-09-2006 SECURITY - IBM warns about an error in the ZIP-library of Notes

IBM is warning against a vulnerability in Notes that can be exploited through specially prepared ZIP-files with overly long file names.
When a specially crafted ZIP-file with an overly long file name (a file name or files inside a package) is previewed with the "View..." function in Mail, the attacker may be able to execute arbitrary code on user's system.
The Notes-versions 5.0.10, 6.0 and 6.5.1 contain a version with a date from 1999 that is vulnerable. In Notes 6.5.5 and 7.0 issued at the end of 2005 the error has been removed.
